I NEVER EVER buy stuff...All I got is either thru gifts from friends (free too) or I bought with coins/money earned thru playing the game. I am in NO hurry to get to any level. It's just a time killer for me...and it's FUN!

thank you basia - very interesting link!
i play games like CRAZY online, but like pedro, i never ever pay for anything either (or take the "free" game coin offered by advertisers, which is the main issue in that whole debate). although i agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment of the guy who wrote the article, i have mixed feelings about scams in general.... while i would never condone ripping someone off, ever ever ever - i have no idea how people who scam others sleep at night - i also think that people have a certain responsibility for their own actions. (of course, kids using parents' phone numbers or cc numbers is a separate issue.) i think about this every time i see one of those "scam alert" blurbs on the local news as well - someone ripping people off using a "hi i'm from nigeria and i would like your help to cash a check in the us" or whatever type scam. while i feel sorry for people who get ripped off, part of me wonders why the heck people don't see red flags all over the place and hear alarms sounding in their heads when someone offers you hundreds and thousands of dollars for doing NOTHING but cashing a check. same thing with the games on facebook, etc - i kinda think if you're dumb enough to enter your personal info just because some random company asks for it, you kinda have some responsibility in the consequences, kwim???? i have taken that dumb i.q. test - and then you get to the end and it asks for your cell number so that it can text you your results and i went HUH? NOOOOOO, i don't think so.
these unscrupulous companies aren't forcing anyone to do anything that they don't willingly do themselves - i'm not saying it's right BUT i don't think an shafty company behaving badly excuses an individual for not using their brain. i personally think that we as a society have gotten heavily into blaming others for everything - especially our own bad decisions. bottom line for me: if i get duped (and i mean, DUPED FOOLED SCAMMED - different than lied to or stolen from) then shame on whoever ripped me off AND shame on me for falling for it.
for example: i don't enter "win the car" drawings at the fair - come on, who gives away a car for NOTHING??? they're giving the car away as a small price to pay for the volumes of names and addresses they're getting in return - nifty lists to sell to other companies who will then add you to their calling lists and bug you day and night. if you are irritated by the solicitor calls, take a second to think when's the last time you YOURSELF handed someone your digits.
says me.
okay, i'm off of my soap box now.

Good points (maybe this should have went to the debate section)
People should use their brains. But not everyone has common sense (we gain common sense by having exposure to things, some are new to the entire thing and haven't had exposure) and then there are the people who think everything is legitimate and fall for the scam. (usually older folks).
That is why I posted the article... just to give a heads up to those who may not be so internet game savvy.

Guess I am guilty of playing the games too, but I also know that the developers have to make a buck. Just not mine. I play the free stuff up to the point where it is simply fun and nobody wants any personal info, then I back away. So far, I am having a lot of fun with Farmville, Cafe World, Fish World, and (sad to say) Yoville. My sister has been playing them for a while and as she is one of the most suspicious and cautious people I have ever met, she has vetted the games out for me. I am even worse about such things and I waited to see if her computer blew up for quite a while before I even tried them. Now we get together and play them together. So far, no money has been spent and I have had a lot of fun.

I have never been on myspace or facebook or anything similar, so what does that tell you about me?
