What a sad thing.......I know you will take good care of the chicks, and if anyone can figure out what is wrong, you will! Keep us posted, please.

Just wondering... could it be new mommy syndrome? Very seldom do any of my birds (be it canaries, parakeets or Cockatiels get it right the first time (sometimes not even the second time) it is heart breaking but they finally learn. At least with chickens and quail you can save the little guys. I hope that is all it is and they will do well with the next clutch.

They've done this before Basia and were so protective it was all we could do to feed and water them, we would stick an egg carton in the brooder to divert them from ripping our hands off!

I only got the 2 chicks from the hatch and here they are at 5 weeks old...
I think I scared this one half to death

And here is my partridge cochin mix, 11 weeks old (mixed with a mille or sultan roo)
And here is my only black silkie, also 11 weeks old. She is starting to get the buff/gold coloring on her breast

They are beautiful Tammy! And your black silkie is starting to look like Cindy!
