Naked Neck Chicks...Are they born that way?

shrug  Someone who raises mutt chickens, bantams and NN gave me 2 chicks over the weekend.  I'm wondering if they are NN or not.  The chicks are fuzzy all over.  HELP!

I hope they are not Naked Necks!  I hope they are not Naked Necks!  I hope they are not Naked Necks!

I named them Mutt and Jeff just in case. juggler

NN chicks from what I know are hatched having no feathers on the neck - so if your babies have fuzzy necks than they will not have the NN look

do they have a NN as either one of the parents ( father or mother ? ) if they do they might have carry the NN gene and maybe pass it on to thier babies - but not sure hopefully someone will be able to help out with that one.

Farmer just lets them lay and set.  Everything their is mixed.  Some of them are beautiful but I couldn't find one NN that had an once of cuteness in it.  Maybe they have great personalities.  What I do know is that a bantie hen is the proud mother of 5 (2 of which I now have).

I hope they are not NN because my youngest son and I already  love them!

My oldest son (18) and dh would love nothing more than to make fun of them and us for the next several years...decades...eons... sad3

Re: Naked Neck Chicks...Are they born that way?

well if they have neck fuzz you are safe from the never endless teasing of your DH and DS

I had 2 NNs one roo and a hen - as fas as looks they were not that bad took alittle to get used to - but they were mean little buggers always running up to peck my hand and after awhile it started to hurt - so I rehomed them when they were still young and " cute "

I am sure there are people who have them and they are sweet birds but the two I had were mean little snots.

If they are going to naked necks,  they hatch that way. So yours are not NN if their neck isn't naked. they will carry the NN gene, though if one parent has it and can pass it on.
Here are some naked Necks I had last year. They were a few days old in this pic. Sometimes they have a "bow tie" and it is just a tuft of feathers on their neck. Sooo cute, when they have a "bow tie".

My little Showgirl. lol
I liked my NN's,  they just ate way too much, so I sold them. Plus I can't knit, so their necks would have been cold all winter. I adore my Showgirl. :bfs

If you look into a fish tank, and see a French poodle eating orange peels, you should go to the doctor.
Never go to burger king and say GIMME THE MIC NUGGETS!
