How to fix a hurt tree?

This acreage we bought has this gorgeous young oak tree in the front yard.

Unfortunately, when the cleanup crew was "cleaning up" they brushed it with the brush hog and totally damaged the tree about 4 inches up, taking off ALL the bark on one side, and going clear down to the tender sap part.  This was in late August.

It didnt take the bark off the whole circumference, but just about 1/3 to 1/2.  Would paint help prevent infection?  Will the bark grow back or will this kill the whole tree.  Its a really nice started tree, about 25 feet tall and well shaped, and I LOVE oak trees.

So many trees have to go on this property I would love to SAVE this one but not sure what to do for it.  I have always heart paint where ya take branches off, but...?..what do I do in this case, anyone know?

It breaks my heart that the main shade tree (also oak) has to go due to extensive lightning ?  damage when younger, so the trunk is shot.  sad  Its bad enuff that even I can tell it needs to go.
The trunk is basically half gone on one side.  sad

As long as there is some on half of the tree, it's okay.  Otherwise, they do sell something for that

I was going to be good, but I got bored

There is a pruning spray at home depot that might help. It's basically spray paint with antiseptic in it.

Treat each day as your last. One day you will be right. chickie3
