Re: Rhode Island Reds Post Pictures of yours

Hi, these are my 3 1/2 week old  RIR's and they are growing fast.  They are all different colors and I honestly think someone snuck in a different breed with them as I have a blondie in the batch and her wings are very light and not the same as the others. They are delightful though and so friendly and talkative.   Trudy          chickie3      chickie3       chickie3

Re: Rhode Island Reds Post Pictures of yours

This is Rhoda.  She's a couple of years old now but a wonderful hen.

In this photo she is letting the newest member of my flock know exactly where he stands in the pecking order of things!

Re: Rhode Island Reds Post Pictures of yours

These are a few pics of my three girls. I did get a rooster, though he was in rough shape when I got him (frostbite, been beat severely by other roosters, mites) He is still having issues with bleeding comb, I think the girls add to that issue by beating him up. I hope I can keep him alive so he gets better and I can get more from them.

Re: Rhode Island Reds Post Pictures of yours

Emma the Red, my elder, now two years old.

My other two, Sugar, the gold sex-linked cross (RIR x RIW), and Lucy, another standard RIR.

My girls at 'work' at the 'compost mines'.

"Ooooo, Emma...You've been sunning a bit long, you're pretty red."

Cold feets for Sugar.

"Dis stuf b naz-t.  Wen it b ober?" asks Lucy from the door of her chook condo.

Emma strikes her vulture pose, lurking over the cage of new interlopers (chicks).

I have just the three...the maximum allowed by the city.  I live very near the center of a major metropolitan area, Portland, Oregon.  I tend to call it "Puddle City" in that I find it more accurate.

My significant other has a farm in the exurbs of the area...a 30 minute drive from my house.  Her grown sons will be moving there and setting up their own coop of chickens, but it will serve as my overflow and test area after I've raised chicks for a few folks.  I'm acquiring twelve chicks and planning on keeping just one.  Of course, I ordered three Americaunas, three gold-laced Wyandottes, and three black Australorps, and I'll be picking up three black sex-lined crosses from another location.  I plan on keeping one of the latter and farming out the rest.  I love my RIRs, though.  Emma and Sugar will be staying, and Lucy will become the mature member of the new flock in the tulie weeds, along with the unselected crowd left over from the raising experience.
