Re: Buttercups, Post pics of yours

I have buttercups and golden penciled hamburgs.  Look very similar, and act very similar.
The buttercups  talk to me when I come into the coop, but the hamburgs want me to pick them up or sit down so they can sit on my lap.  I love being around them....of course, I like most of my birds, but do have favorites.
Yours are beautiful, Tammy! I didn't know that they don't do well in confined areas.

Re: Buttercups, Post pics of yours

I got two buttercups from a big hatchery. Both have distinctive personalities.
One flies to my shoulder (and over gates and fences) to achieve first place in line for treats. She lays a medium sized egg, BUT  the yolks of her eggs are ALWAYS much more orange than the others. Great for yellow color in Christmas cookie frostings!  The other Buttercup must have been dropped on her head at the hatchery. She's sweet but stumbly.  Maybe a bad back? We call her Fancy Dancy.
She's a year old, in19 days, and going strong.  She is smaller, moults most of the time, hasn't laid for a while.  She's clever, a bit needy but able, communicative, and I adore her- so she's my pet while the others are working girls.   Buttercups do get restless if cooped-up.  They are smaller and will fly.
