these are a couple of pics of some of the chicks we got from Jimmy47. Its a mix of black and blues, and one splash roo. They are 6 weeks old.
They have really grown and starting to show some of their true colors. The blues are all varied in shades. All of them so far seem to have a really good disposition. And are starting to enjoy their treats.
Here are a couple of pictures of Tony. Out of the 5 roosters we got from the 11 Buff Orpingtons chicks that survived early this Spring he was the one we decided NOT to process.
Good thing too! He's just the sweetest rooster I know. Very gentle with us and very much a gentleman with his ladies.
For such a big rooster I thought he'd have a mean temperament but not so. He is just a big cuddle bug!
He makes a fuss when I pick him up but, when I rub his waddles he'll caw and sit still.
I love, love, love...Buff Orpingtons!!!
He's also a beautiful bird!
He was a bit miffed that I interrupted his dust bath for a photo shoot.
He weighs a ton and he's barely 6 months old! Yikes!!!
Sorry, my camera is not the best...I need a NEW digital camera!!!

I forgot to mention...I love all the pictures. ALL of them!
Buff Orpingtons are my choice of birds for sure! Not only are they pretty birds, they are great layers and have a very sweet disposition. I thought my BRs were sweet but, my BOs have them beat.
The BOs will come to me whereas the BRs will only come when I bring food. Not so with BOs...they will come WHENEVER I go into the run and climb all over me.
They climb up on my shoulder, knee, extended legs (as they scritch-scratch my calf to get a foothold) or anywhere they can climb up on...ME! You name it!
I love hanging out with them, reading or doing crosswords.
The neighbors must think I'm NUTS...sitting in the chicken run with birds all over me...like some statue.
(Sans the pigeon poop!)
I told Shawn...we might get some Black Jersey Giants next but that's it...BOs are the best as far as I am concerned! LOL!
I Buff Orpingtons...but, those Blues, Splashes and Whites sure do look beautiful!

what a great thread - I have to say that I'm most drawn to Orps!
From what few breeds of chickens we have had, I much prefer orps. We definitely will keep all our chickens until they go to the Great Coop in the Sky, but our goal is to eventually have only a variety of orps.
I have a few buffs.
"Do you mind? I'm trying to lay an egg here..."
She looks so angry.
We've taken the plunge and we are raising 25 Buff's. My sister in law says I've built the Taj Mhal of chicken houses. Here's some pics of our babies. They turned nine weeks old on Wednesday.
Here they are just a few days old, fresh off the bus from Randal Burkey's in Texas. They sure was thirsty!
We moved them out of the blue tubbs and into their coop on Christmas Eve. They were so happy to get out of the tubbs.
We've only lost two babies. One didn't make the trip out from Texas and the other one died the day after they arrived. So far we've been pretty fortunate with them. They've grown so fast and we still need to build a yard for them. Chicken's are definitely the talk around here and everyone asks how they are doing. We plan on more, our incubator arrived yesterday, lol.
these are all pullets they are 4months old
